Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Game Night (“we,” “us”), operated by DECO Technology and available at playmytrivia.com, collects and how we use it. The Service is for adults 18 and older only and is not directed to children.

1. Information we collect

From players. To join a game you provide a display name and a game code — no account is required. While a game is live, we process your display name and your in-game actions (answers, scores, and emotes) to run the game. This live game data is held in memory and is discarded when the game ends, except that a finished game’s results — including the display names shown on the final leaderboard, plus a per-question record of which answers each player got right or wrong — may be saved to the host’s game history (see Retention). Please use a nickname rather than your full legal name if you prefer not to be identified.

From hosts (account holders). When you are invited to host, we collect your email address, a password (stored only as a salted cryptographic hash — never in plain text), and an optional display name. We also process the topics you enter to generate questions, and we keep operational logs of your activity, including questions/mini-games generated, games hosted (topics, player counts, and winners/leaderboards), account-usage counts, and security-related events such as sign-ins.

Collected automatically. Our servers record standard technical information, including your IP address, which we use for security, abuse-prevention, rate-limiting, and audit logging.

2. How we use information

To operate games and deliver the Service;
To create and manage host accounts and send account-related email;
To generate trivia and mini-game content from the topics a host provides;
To secure the Service, prevent abuse, and enforce limits and our Terms;
To understand usage and improve the Service.

3. AI and other service providers

We rely on a small number of third-party providers to run the Service, and some information is shared with them only for that purpose:

AI question generation (Google). The topics a host enters are sent to Google’s Gemini API to generate questions and mini-game content. Do not enter sensitive personal information as a topic. Google processes this input under its own terms and privacy policy.
Email delivery (Amazon Web Services). We use Amazon SES to send host account emails (invitations, password resets, and email-change confirmations), which means a recipient’s email address is processed by AWS to deliver the message.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the Service.

4. Cookies and local storage

When a host signs in, we store a session token in the browser’s sessionStorage to keep you logged in for that session. This is a functional mechanism, not an advertising or tracking cookie, and it is cleared when you log out or close the tab. Players are not required to sign in and are not given a tracking identifier.

5. Data retention

Live game data (in memory) is discarded when the game ends.
Game history (including leaderboard display names and per-question answer results) and AI-generation logs are retained for about 180 days, then automatically deleted.
Security/audit records are retained for about 365 days.
Database backups are retained for about 30 days, then deleted.
Host account information is kept while the account is active and removed when the account is deleted (some records may persist in logs/backups for the periods above).

6. Security

We protect data with measures including password hashing (scrypt) and encrypted connections (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your choices and rights

Hosts can review and update their display name, email, and password from the account screen, and may request account deletion. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information. To make a request, contact us using the details below.

8. Children

The Service is for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date above.
